Feather pecking occurs in most hens during laying and also during rearing in all production systems, and is especially difficult to control in cage-free systems, where this behaviour can spread rapidly. The behaviour of birds pecking other birds and pulling out their feathers is known as feather pecking. These GUILDELINES talk about the main causes of feather pecking in laying hens and how we can prevent this problem.
